Hithe + Seek, surrounded by the green of London, lies at the core of Queenhithe Dock. In 886, on this very spot, Alfred the Great arrived to rebuild the city, which had long been abandoned by the Romans.

It took the name of Queenhithe when Queen Matilda was granted the dues from the dock in the early 12th century.
